5 Things to Check Before Hiring a Web Developer in India

Hiring a web developer or agency in India usually starts with a WhatsApp message and a quote. The quote rarely tells you what you're actually getting. Before you pay anything, here are five things worth checking.
1. Can They Show You a Live Demo, Not Just Screenshots?
A portfolio PDF full of screenshots doesn't tell you if a site actually works on a phone, loads fast, or feels right to click through. Ask for a live link, ideally something close to your business type, before you commit.
2. Is the Timeline Specific, or Vague?
"2 to 3 weeks" from a freelancer often becomes 6. Ask what happens at each stage and what could cause a delay. A clear, short timeline (a real one, not an optimistic one) is a strong signal of how organised the actual delivery will be.
3. What Happens After Launch?
A site that breaks a month after going live, with nobody to call, is a common story. Ask directly what support looks like after launch and whether it costs extra.
4. How Do They Actually Communicate?
If getting a response before you've paid takes two days, that's the fastest they'll ever be. Pay attention to how quickly and clearly they answer questions during the sales conversation itself.
5. Is the Price Actually Final?
"Starting from" pricing that balloons once you're mid-project is one of the most common complaints business owners have. Ask what's included, what counts as an extra, and get it in writing before work starts.
